May Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

“Tail Waggin’ Tutors” is an opportunity for Oakland children, ages 5 & up, to read to a very lovable dog. Daisy, and her “Mom”, Jean, will visit the Library on Tuesday, May 5 from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. Sadie, and her “Mom”, Donna, will visit the Library on Thursday, May 14 from 5:30 to 6:10 p.m. Both Daisy and Sadie are registered therapy dogs with Therapy Dogs International. Each child will have about ten minutes to read a favorite story to a dog. The program will be held in the Library’s story gallery. May Book Discussion at the Oakland Public Library

The Oakland Public Library Book Group meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:45 p.m. at the Library. The next meeting will take place on May 14, 2015. troutunlimitedDouglas Penna, member of Trout Unlimited, will showcase trout and fly fishing in the upstairs display case of the Oakland Public Library during the month of May. He will also present a Fly Fishing Demonstration at the Library on May 4th.

Doug Penna and Anglers from East Jersey Trout Unlimited return to the Oakland Library on Monday, May 4 at 6:30 PM, with fishing poles in hand, ready to demonstrate the basics of Fly Casting. East Jersey Trout Unlimited (EJTU) is a community of more than 750 anglers in the greater northeastern New Jersey region who are dedicated to cold water conservation and the stewardship of our local watersheds. EJTU members work to protect, reconnect, restore and sustain trout habitat for anglers today and for the next generations of sportsmen and women who value the relationship between clean, healthy waterways and sustainable fishing.

Rick is an Education Specialist trained by EBAY, operates an online EBAY store and is an EBAY PowerSeller. Topics will include: How EBAY works, safe trading, registering on EBAY selecting items to sell, learning the value of your items, pricing your merchandise writing a description, photos, using a PayPal account collecting payment and more.
This program is free, but registration is required as the seating is limited.

May Art Exhibit at the Oakland Public Library

The 12 Months of Flowers by Robert Furber will be exhibited in the lower level gallery of the Oakland Public Library between May 1st and May 21st. Furber was the gardener for Kensington Gardens, and created these prints in 1730. His intent was to make gardening easier to understand. Please stop in and enjoy his creations.
