July Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

librarypicThe annual Children’s Dept. Carnival will be held on Thursday, July 7 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. at the Oakland Public Library. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will play a variety of games, and prizes will be awarded. Registration is now being taken.

Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will be making “beach ware” on Tuesday, July 12 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in the Pat Turnier Craft Room. This DIY project will involve painting, so participants should bring appropriate clothing. Registration begins Tuesday, June 28. Registration insures children will have the materials needed for the craft.

Wondergy will present the coolest show you will see all summer in the Oakland Public Library’s Children’s Dept. on Thursday, July 14 from 3:45 to 4:45 p.m. Cool Science will explore how we stay cool in the summer heat. There will be liquid Nitrogen, water balloons, fire, and SCIENCE! For the finale, children will enjoy the freshest ice cream they have ever had—made right before their eyes with fresh cream, milk, sugar, and flavorings! Registration begins Tuesday, June 28. Registration insures participants an ice cream treat!

Acclaimed singer-songwriter, Teri Merliss, will present her special blend of imaginative stories, original songs, and audience participation on Friday, July 15 from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the Oakland Public Library’s story gallery. Oakland children, ages 2 & up, are invited to attend with a parent or caregiver. Registration begins Tuesday, June 28.

“Survival of the Fittest”, a live animal program presented by Eyes of the Wild, will be held in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library on Thursday, July 21 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will be learning about the various ways animals protect themselves in the wild. Sharp claws, sharp senses, and sharp teeth are just a few of the attributes predators might use to survive in the wild. This program is sponsored by the generosity of the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library. Registration begins Tuesday, July 5.

Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will be creating art through tape removal on Tuesday, July 26 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in the Pat Turnier Craft Room. This DIY project will involve painting, so participants should bring appropriate clothing. Registration begins Tuesday, July 12. Registration insures children will have the materials needed for the craft.

Bowl-a-Rama will be held on Thursday, July 28 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library. A variety of bowling games will challenge Oakland children, ages 5 & up. Small prizes will be awarded. Registration begins Tuesday, July 12.
