librarypicAcclaimed singer-songwriter, Teri Merliss, will present her special blend of imaginative stories, original songs, and audience participation on Friday, October 16 from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the Oakland Public Library’s story gallery. October Book Discussion at the Oakland Public Library

The Oakland Public Library Book Group meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:45 p.m. at the Library. The next meeting will take place on October 8, 2015. Photography Display at the Oakland Public Library

Photographer, Dave Frieder, will display his photographs of bridges in the lower level gallery of the Oakland Public Library from September 18 to October 30. He has been photographing bridges since 1993, and has come to admire them as engineering marvels. He describes the how and why of the function of bridges as being able to “Feel the Steel”. Frieder’s favorite bridge is the George Washington Bridge. Visit the Library for a small sample of Dave Frieder’s incredible artwork!

The New Friends of the Oakland Public Library Annual Book Sale is Oct. 30, 31 & Nov 1. Donations of gently used or new paperback or hardcover books, DVD’s, CD’s, Jigsaw Puzzles, Video Games can be dropped off at the Library during the month of September and October. What a great opportunity to clear out your bookcases, entertainment units, and family rooms and donate the above items to a worthy cause. All proceeds from the Book Sale go to supporting Children, Teen and Adult programs at the Oakland Library. The Library is located at 2 Municipal Plaza Road.

October Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

“Tail Waggin’ Tutors” is an opportunity for Oakland children, ages 5 & up, to read to a very lovable dog. Sadie, and her “Mom”, Donna, will visit the Library on Thursday, October 22 from 5:30 to 6:10 p.m. Daisy, and her “Mom”, Jean, will visit the Library on Tuesday, October 27 from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. Both Sadie and Daisy are registered therapy dogs with Therapy Dogs International. Each child will have about ten minutes to read a favorite story to a dog. The program will be held in the Library’s story gallery. Halloween Book Bingo will be held on Monday, October 26 from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. in the Pat Turnier Craft Room. Oakland children of all ages are invited to try their luck and win small prizes. (Prereaders may need some assistance.) Registration is requested, but not required.
