librarypicSeptember is Library Card Sign-up month at the Oakland Library. First time card holders, residents of Oakland, can sign up for their new card at the Oakland Library during the month of September and be eligible for a $50.00 VISA Gift Card. The drawing will take place in the beginning of October.

Bergen County Surrogate Judge Michael Dressler will present “Protect Your Legacy for the Next Generation” at the Oakland Library on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 PM. Judge Dressler will discuss the importance of wills, probate procedures, administration of estates, estate tax consequences, powers of attorney, medical directives and guardianships. The New Friends of the Oakland Public Library Annual Book Sale is Oct. 30, 31 & Nov 1. Donations of gently used or new paperback or hardcover books, DVD’s, CD’s, Jigsaw Puzzles, Video Games can be dropped off at the Library during the month of September and October. What a great opportunity to clear out your bookcases, entertainment units, and family rooms and donate the above items to a worthy cause. All proceeds from the Book Sale go to supporting Children, Teen and Adult programs at the Oakland Library. The Library is located at 2 Municipal Plaza Road.

On September 20th from 2- 5:00 the New Friends of the Oakland Library presents “Music, Munchies, and Meanderings “ at the Levine Gardens. Tickets are $30.00 and can be purchased at the Oakland Library, located at 2 Municipal Plaza, Oakland NJ. Fall Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

“Tail Waggin’ Tutors” is an opportunity for Oakland children, ages 5 & up, to read to a very lovable dog.  Sadie, and her “Mom”, Donna, will visit the Library on Thursday, September 17 from 5:30 to 6:10 p.m.  Daisy, and her “Mom”, Jean, will visit the Library on Tuesday, September 29 from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m.  Both Sadie and Daisy are registered therapy dogs with Therapy Dogs International.  Each child will have about ten minutes to read a favorite story to a dog.  The program will be held in the Library’s story gallery.  Please register in person, online at http://oaklandnjlibrary.org, or by calling 201-337-5236.

The Children’s Dept. will offer an origami class for beginners on Thursday, October 8 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in the Pat Turnier Craft Room.  Oakland children, in second grade and up, are invited to attend.  This is a small class, so participants should register early.  Registration begins Tuesday, September 22.  Please register in person, online at http://oaklandnjlibrary.org, or by calling 201-337-5236.
