The Skinny on Teresa

teresaReality television is not necessarily so real, at least as far as a recent encounter with Teresa of the New Jersey Housewives television show. The reality celebrity was at Stage Left in Franklin Lakes, NJ to promote her new book and help with some charity fundraising.

This was the first time The Franklin Lakes Journal had an opportunity to come face-to-face with any member of the cast, and we are prepared to say that reality TV may not be so real.

Our propensity for communication by texting, email and Facebooking can lead us to forget the power of physical interaction. Meeting someone in person you pick up their vibe, you look into their eyes, you can sense their energy. New research by the Defense Department even points to humans having a sense of smell similar to dogs, the brain picks chemical pheromones the body puts off.

Teresa was down-to-earth and sweet, even under some tough questioning on behalf of The Journal. With Cicero as a maiden name, I was able to use a common heritage to test the waters of Teresa with a little good-natured fun. The title of her new book, The Skinny Italian, is the first of what she says will be additional books in a similar vein. Teresa was asked if she considered another word for Italian that rhymes more with skinny. The Skinny __________.

Smart, funny, and quick, Teresa responded that while the rhyming word was fine with her, it might not be politically correct for her publishers. But whatever the name of the new book, we look forward to any insights on cooking from someone who takes their red sauce so serious.

On a side note, local residents shouldn’t be scared off by Teresa’s shopping spree at Stage Left on the Housewives of NJ. There is something for everyone and the large sale rack guarantees you won’t have to spend 1000’s of dollars for your kids to look great.

The NY Post reported an article that further clarified that reality television might not be so real. Teresa’s husband, who’s income is related to real estate and construction, has obviously been hard hit as both industries have suffered major declines with the economic crisis still wreaking havoc across America. Those readers interested can access The NY Post article here which details public records related to recent bankruptcy filings.
