HURRICANE STORM UPDATE
FOR
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2012

This is a message from Mayor Linda Schwager and the Borough Council:

Water Supply
In response to questions we have received, PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT OUR WATER IS SAFE TO DRINK.

Halloween
Halloween is postponed due to unsafe conditions -there are still downed trees and downed wires. The new date for the holiday, per Executive Order of the Governor, is Monday, November 5, 2012.

Borough, School and other Facilities
Our Library is open. You can go to the Library to charge your cell phones and use our wireless internet.

Schools are closed tomorrow.

Churches have opened their doors for children activities. Ponds Church is open today and OLPH will be opened tomorrow. Food pantries are stocking up.

Oakland officials are working with Rockland Electric to restore our power as quickly as possible. Be prepared that power may be out for a significant period of time. If you need shelter please note that the county shelter is full. We are prepared to open our shelter in Oakland as needed. Call 201-337-8111, ext. 201 to provide your contact information. If you cannot reach anyone at that number then call 201-337-6171.

Program Cancellations
All Oakland Recreation Activities are cancelled until further notice.

The Flu Clinic scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, has been postponed. The Rabies Clinic scheduled for Saturday, November 3rd has also been postponed. These clinics will be rescheduled.

Other Information
Trees on private property that need to be removed as a result of the storm, do not require a permit.

The grace period for 4th quarter taxes due November 1st has been extended to November 13th, 2012.

All non-storm related Construction Dept. inspections are cancelled this week. However Damage Assessment inspections will be performed. Contact the Construction Department for assistance at 201-337-1644.
