OCTOBER 29 UPDATES:
Borough Hall will be open a full day today, closing at 4:30pm.  For tomorrow, Tuesday, October 30, 2012, the Library and Senior Center will be closed.  Borough offices will be on a delayed opening and will be open from 1:00pm to 4:30pm if there is no power outage.

OCTOBER 29 UPDATES:

The Oakland Public Library and Senior Center are closed today and tomorrow due to the storm.

UPDATED OCTOBER 28th:

  • Alternate Parking Arrangements: If you live in a flood prone area, you should move your vehicles to higher grounds. You have permission to use the parking lot at OLPH and at Shop Rite in the upper parking lot dirt area. Please leave contact information on your dash board. Garbage and Recycling
  • There will be garbage pick-up and yard waste pick up on Monday, October 29th. However yard waste pick up is cancelled for Tuesday, October 30th. Further updates will be provided regarding the Recycling pick up scheduled for Wednesday, October 31st.
  • Emergency personnel are prepared to respond to all emergencies. For all emergencies, call 911. For non-emergency assistance, call 201-337-6171 Medical personnel requiring transportation to hospitals or medical centers, call 201-337-6171.
  • During the Storm For up-to-date information, keep checking Oakland-NJ.org, Ryan’s Weather Updates, Oakland Patch, OaklandNJFlood.com,and TheOaklandJournal.com.
  • In the event of complete loss of telephone service, emergency personnel will be posted at Manito School, Heights School, Dogwood School, Valley Middle School and the entrance at ShopRite. Shoprite of Oakland has posted a sign informing customers that suffer power outages, that Shoprite will provide provide cooler space. The sign stated that items should be in sealed boxes with name attached.

The Journal suggests contacting Shoprite should you suffer an outage and need to make use of the offer.

ORIGINAL POST OCT 28th:
As of Sunday afternoon, Ramapo and Indian Hills high schools have cancelled school for Monday and Tuesday.

In addition, Franklin Lakes, Wyckoff, and Oakland  K-8 classes have been cancelled.

Below is the pertinent information provided by each school district .

Closures concerning mass transit in NJ & NY is also listed below.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

  • NJ Transit will gradually shut down bus, rail and light rail services starting at 4 p.m. Sunday and ending at 2 a.m. The shutdown also includes customers that use Access Link service for the elderly and disabled.
  • The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced that PATH service will end at 12:01 a.m. Monday.
  • New York and Connecticut also announced transit system shutdowns earlier Sunday.
  • The Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operates the city’s subways, will begin to curtail service after 7 p.m., and the New York City bus system within the following two hours.
  • Metro-North Railroad and the Long Island Rail Road will start their final trains by 7 p.m
  • The bridges and tunnels leading in and out of New York City will be closed on a case-by-case basis, Cuomo said. Hurricane plans call for bridges to close if winds are at 60 miles (97 kilometers) per hour or above.
  • Some airlines have already begun cancelling flights, and that number is expected to increase

RIH High Schools

Yesterday, the Governor declared a state of emergency for the next two days as the weather forecast predicts significant rain and wind as Hurricane Sandy makes landfall. In the name of safety and in order to allow families to make necessary preparations for the storm, we will be closing both Ramapo and Indian Hills High Schools on both Monday, October 29 and Tuesday, October 30. As a result, all Wyckoff Public Schools will be closed both Monday, October 29th and Tuesday, October 30th. All school activities and programs are cancelled or postponed. The meeting of the Wyckoff Board of Education scheduled for Monday, October 29th has been postponed.
