August Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

Bowl-a-Rama will be held on Thursday, August 3rd from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library. A variety of bowling games will challenge Oakland children, ages 5 & up. Small prizes will be awarded. Registration is now being taken.

Magician and family entertainer, Steve Woyce, will present his all-new 2017 Summer Show, “The Magic of Sharks” on Tuesday, August 15th from 10:00 to 10:45 am AND 11:00 to 11:45 am in the Fellowship Hall of the Ponds Reformed Church. This entertaining and educational show will feature comedy magic, a boat-load of audience participation, and fun shark facts all rolled into an unforgettable time for the whole family! Oakland families are invited to attend. Juice and cookies will be served. The program is sponsored by the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library, and is free of charge. Registration begins Tuesday, August 1st.

The Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library will host the Fifteenth Annual Kindergarten Kickoff on Wednesday, August 30th in the Library. This is an opportunity for those children entering schools in Oakland to meet their classmates prior to the first day of school. Meeting times are as follows: Manito (10:00 to 11:00 am), Heights (11:15 am to 12:15 pm), and Dogwood Hill (1:00 to 2:00 pm). A special story time and gift-for-teacher craft is planned. (All kindergartners are asked to bring a wallet-sized photo of themselves for their teacher craft.) Registration begins Tuesday, August 8th.
