July Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

A Scavenger Hunt will be offered on Thursday, July 6 from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, can try their luck and win a prize! Registration is now being taken.

Do you ever think about magnets? The world of magnets and magnetism will be explored in a science workshop on Tuesday, July 11 from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Pat Turnier Craft Room. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, are invited to attend. Each participant will be making a magnet. Registration insures each participant will have the materials needed for the project. Registration begins Tuesday, June 27.

Sciencetellers will present a tale of tall ships and pirates on Thursday, July 13 from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library. Throughout the story, volunteers from the audience will help explore the incredible science behind clouds, flash paper, air pressure, explosions, and more! Oakland children, ages 5 & up, won’t want to miss this refreshing nautical tale with a twist! Registration begins Tuesday, June 27.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter, Teri Merliss, will present her special blend of imaginative stories, original songs, and audience participation on Friday, July 14 from 10:30 to 11:00 am in the Oakland Public Library’s story gallery. Oakland children, ages 2 & up, are invited to attend with a parent or caregiver. Registration begins Tuesday, June 27.

“Build a Better World Naturally”, a live animal program presented by Eyes of the Wild, will be held in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library on Thursday, July 20th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will be introduced to some amazing rescued animals that we share the world with. We will marvel at the incredible beauty of nature and find out how we can work toward a future that includes every living thing. Animals help build a better world too! This program is sponsored by the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library. Registration begins Wednesday, July 5th.

Oakland resident, Tara Haymon, will offer a presentation on space exploration, and insights from her Space Camp experience on Tuesday, July 25th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, are invited to attend. Questions welcome. Registration begins Tuesday, July 11th.

Join Wondergy for a robotics program on Thursday, July 27th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library. This interactive journey from simple funny robots to complex (and super cute) humanoid robots will explore the STEM concepts that bring robotics to life! Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will learn about sensing and electricity, programming, output/motors and feedback loops. This program is sponsored by the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library. Registration begins Tuesday, July 11th.
