Girl Scouts Plant Garden 3

On Friday, May 7th, Girl Scout Daisy troop 200 and Brownie troop 1057 planted flowers at the Oakland Public Library.

brownie200and1057The Daisies have been working on their Amazing Daisy Leadership Journey throughout the year and this Take Action community service was the culminating activity for the troop. Throughout the year the girls have been learning about the Girl Scout Law through a garden-themed story and activities designed to help them discover, connect and take action!

This planting was also a community service project for the Brownie troop as they’ve also been working on their leadership Journey called the Brownie Quest. One of the goals this year for the Brownies was to learn to identify areas in the community that could use a little attention and how to write letters to the appropriate people. One group wrote to the Library suggesting they could add flowers to the flag pole garden and the Library Board and Garden Club eagerly accepted the girls offer.

Together, both troops along with the Garden Club, donated and planted both the flag pole garden and the bed in front of the window outside the Library with some perrenials and many annuals such as marigolds, petunias, begonias and impatiens. The troops hope that the community will enjoy seeing the flowers as they visit the Library!
