August Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

A Sportstacular Scavenger Hunt will be offered on Thursday, August 4 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m. in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, can try their luck and win a prize! Registration begins Tuesday, July 19.

magicianMagician, Brian Richards, will present his “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” Magic Show on Tuesday, August 16 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. AND 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the Ponds Reformed Church. Magic, comedy, storytelling, juggling, puppetry, and tons of audience participation will entertain children of all ages. Oakland families are invited to attend. Juice and cookies will be served. The program is sponsored by the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library, and is free of charge. Registration begins Tuesday, August 2.  Click here to see more about Brian Richards.

“Tail Waggin’ Tutors” is an opportunity for Oakland children, ages 5 & up, to read to a very lovable dog. Sadie, and her “Mom”, Donna, will visit the Library on Thursday, August 18 from 5:30 to 6:10 p.m. Sadie is a registered therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International. Each child will have about ten minutes to read a favorite story to her. The program will be held in the Library’s story gallery. Registration begins Tuesday, August 2.
