June Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)
Father’s Day is just around the corner! A Special “Drop-In” Father’s Day Craft will be held on Thursday, June 14th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm in the Pat Turnier Craft Room. The craft to be created is a surprise—to be given to Dad on Father’s Day! Oakland children of all ages are invited to attend.
Jester Jim will kick off the summer festivities on Wednesday, June 20th from 5:00 to 6:00 pm in the multi-purpose room of the Valley Middle School. His hilarious show, featuring juggling, comedy and music was voted “Best Family Show” by Entertainer America. Oakland children, ages 4 & up, will enjoy a zany beatbox introduction, and juggling with unusual props during his performance! Registration begins Tuesday, June 5th. This program is free of charge, sponsored by the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library.
Preschool Story Hour for three to five-year-olds will be held on Mondays from 10:30 to 11:00 am AND 1:00 to 1:30 pm in the Oakland Public Library’s story gallery. The seven-week session will begin Monday, June 25th, and ends August 6th. The session may include stories, songs, crafts, or activities for this age group. Registration is recommended.
Tots Library Club (TLC) is an unstructured, early library experience for 0 to 24-month-olds and their caregiver. A seven-week session of TLC will be held on Thursdays from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the Oakland Public Library’s story gallery beginning Thursday, June 28th. The last session will be held Thursday, August 9th. Registration is recommended.
The Terrific 2’s & 3’s Story Times for two to three-year-olds and their caregiver will be held from 10:30 to 11:00 am on Fridays from June 29th to August 10th. The seven-week session may include stories, songs, crafts, or activities for this age group. Registration is recommended.
A Sing-Along will be held on Tuesday, June 26th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Oakland Public Library. Oakland children, ages 3 & up, are invited to attend this music program. Registration begins Tuesday, June 12th.
A Scavenger Hunt will be offered on Thursday, June 28th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, can try their luck and win prizes! Registration begins Tuesday, June 12th.

2018 Oakland Public Library Summer Reading Club (Children’s Dept.)
Where will the music take you this summer? Tune in to the beat in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library, and sign up for the 2018 “Libraries Rock!” Summer Reading Club. Registration begins Monday, June 18th.
Children of all ages are invited to get in the groove with books, story times, activities, games, and spectacular special events for a summer that rocks and rolls! Thanks to the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library, all programs are free of charge!

Registration for the Jester Jim Show begins Tuesday, June 5th. Other special events will be held on Thursdays from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Children’s Dept. The annual Scavenger Hunt will be held on Thursday, June 28th, followed by the annual Carnival on Thursday, July 5th. Sciencetellers will combine a classic action-packed western story with science experiments on Thursday, July 12th. Eyes of the Wild will visit the Library on July 19th, and bring some live animals. Ventriloquist, Steve Petra presents his “Musical Zoo” puppet troupe on Thursday, July 26th. There will also be a musical instrument “petting zoo” on Thursday, August 2nd. These are just a few of the special events happening this summer.
Merit stickers and prizes will be awarded all summer long. Pre-readers and readers will be given weekly prizes as they complete their literacy challenges. Oakland children can continue reading and stepping to the beat until Wednesday, August 8th. All Oakland families will then be invited to the “Sharks Rock: The Magic of Sharks 2” show presented by master magician, Steve Woyce, on Tuesday, August 14th. Juice and cookies will be served.
