Aproximately 750 early morning risers took part in the Wyckoff-Franklin Lakes Triatholon. The race designed for this event was slightly greater than what is described as a sprint, but not quite up to Olympic standards. No doubt that it is a challenge that starts with a half mile swim, transition to a 17 mile bike race, and the final segment being a 5 mile run.
Modern triathlons in the United States can be traced back to 1974 in Southern California when the first official event attracted 46 competitors. The sport has grown tremendously over the years, and now there are thousands of races all around the globe. It has also given birth to the Ironman competitions which, like the different standards used in triathlons, can vary in it’s degree of difficulty.
This annual triathlon had a cut off number of 800 participants, so organizers came very close to officially maxing out. Readers can check out all the times for participants at Compuscore, but we’ll list the top finishers from the surrounding towns.
