Sick Fox Spotted

A message from Tyco Animal Control and the Oakland Board of Health

foxAs most people are aware, a sick fox has been spotted in Wayne.  We would like to advise all residents that during this time of year animals are coming out of hibernation.  People should be careful to avoid all contact with wildlife or any other animals they are unfamiliar with, even if an animal looks young and helpless.  All warm blooded animals can carry rabies.

It is best for residents to notify the police when they encounter wildlife during the day or wildlife that is acting in a drunken state.  Please keep your distance, giving animals room to escape.  Do not try to contain or corner any animal, as all animals will bite when they feel threatened.  Never leave small animals or children outside unattended.  Always keep garbage cans closed, do not over fill bird feeders, and always clean seeds and shells off the ground daily, never leave food outside for any animals.  Putting food or water out may encourage animals and insects you do not wish to deal with on your property, such as bears, coyotes, foxes, skunks and disease-borne mosquitoes. Please be aware of your surroundings while hiking.

If we all act in a reasonable manner, humans and animals can cohabitate very successfully.
