On the Job – February 14, 2012

On February 5, 2012 Ptl. Noury conducted a motor vehicle stop on Ramapo Valley Road after observing the vehicle make an improper U-turn at the intersection of Ramapo Valley Road and Post Road .  As the officer approached the vehicle, he immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle’s passenger compartment.  The driver, a 17 year old Newton resident, was subsequently removed from the vehicle and asked to perform some standardized field sobriety tests.  After failing to successfully complete these tests, Ptl. Noury took the girl into custody and transported her to HQ where she submitted samples of her breath for chemical testing.  She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DWI in a school zone, failing to observe a traffic control device, and several other miscellaneous motor vehicle citations.  She was later released into the custody of her mother and was given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On February 8, 2012 as a result of an inquiry into a suspicious vehicle which was observed parked on Truman Blvd. near the intersection of Ramapo River Trace, Ptl. Docwra arrested two Oakland residents for the possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  A third individual, a 49 year old Oakland resident, was subsequently arrested and charged by Ptl. Noury for obstructing the administration of law after she physically interfered with the arrest by opening the rear door of the officer’s patrol car and proceeded to converse with the arrested individual seated inside.  All three individuals were transported to HQ, processed and released on their own recognizance.

mariOn February 9, 2012 Ptl. Keenan conducted a motor vehicle stop on Lakeshore Drive .  During the course of the stop, Ptl. Keenan asked the driver, an 18 year old Garfield resident, for consent to search his vehicle.  A passenger in the vehicle, a 19 year old Garfield resident, was removed from the car by Ptl. Harvey while the search was being conducted.  As the passenger stepped to the rear of the vehicle, the officer detected the strong odor of raw marijuana emanating from his person.  A search of the man revealed a small baggie in his jacket pocket which contained a green leafy substance suspected to be marijuana.  He was placed under arrest and transported to HQ where he was charged with the possession of a controlled dangerous substance.  He was later released on his own recognizance and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.
