On the Job – February 22, 2012


On February 9, 2012 Ptl. Ryan O’Keefe and Sgt. Coghlan investigated a reported burglary to a residence on Ramapo Valley Road .  Their investigation revealed that the owner of the residence knew the identity of the offender.  He was observed on the property by a family member on February 8 and February 9, 2012 and advised not to return.  A complaint charging the individual with trespassing and burglary was issued by Detective Bart Pagerie.  Bail was set at $25,000.00.  On February 13, 2012 the suspect was arrested on the outstanding warrant by the Wayne Township Police Department.  At police headquarters, the suspect confessed to an additional burglary to another family member’s residence on Manito Ave.   He was charged accordingly and transported to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of posting bail.

dwitestOn February 10, 2012 Ptl. Broek conducted a motor vehicle stop on I-287 after observing the vehicle being operated in a reckless manner on Ramapo Valley Road .  Upon his approach to the vehicle, the officer immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver as he spoke.  The driver was removed from the vehicle and asked to perform some standardized field sobriety tests.  He was subsequently arrested and transported to HQ where he was later charged with D.W.I. and various other motor vehicle offenses.  He was released into the custody of a friend and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.


On February 11, 2012 Sgt. Paul O’Keefe and Ptl. Gusterson
were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle crash on Pawnee Ave near the intersection of Monhegan Ave.   Upon their arrival, the officers located the driver who was leaning against his vehicle which had just struck a utility pole.  The driver admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to operating his vehicle and was administered field sobriety tests by Ptl. Gusterson.  The 47 year old Oakland resident was arrested after failing to successfully complete the tests and transported to HQ where he provided samples of his breath for chemical testing.  He was charged with D.W.I. and D.W.I. within 1000 feet of a school.  He was later released and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On February 11, 2012 Ptl. O’Neill was dispatched to investigate a reported suspicious vehicle on Thackeray Road.  In the process of checking the surrounding area on Brook Hollow Road, the officer located an occupied vehicle that was parked in the cul-de-sac.  The officer approached the occupants and discovered that they had been smoking marijuana.  A glass pipe and a small bag of suspected marijuana were located in the vehicle and both occupants were subsequently taken into custody.  The 20 year old female driver from Glen Ridge, NJ was charged with the possession of a controlled dangerous substance and the possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.  The 23 year old male passenger from Oakland was charged with the possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  Both individuals were processed and released on their own recognizance.
