On the Job – November 28, 2012

On November 20, 2012 it was reported that a 2002 Bobcat (skid steer) was stolen from a business on Franklin Avenue.  The exact date of the theft is not certain as it was only recently discovered missing when workers were in the process of bringing equipment to various locations in preparation for snow removal.  Ptl. Ryan O’Keefe investigated.

On November 20, 2012 Ptl. Rowin arrested a 21 year old Oakland resident who was observed walking on Ramapo Valley Road that was known to have an active outstanding arrest warrant.  The man was taken into custody and searched.  The search revealed a hypodermic syringe in his jacket pocket and additional drug paraphernalia in the pocket of his pants.  He was charged with the unlawful possession of a hypodermic needle and the possession of drug paraphernalia.  Bail was set at $2000.00, no 10% and he was subsequently remanded to the Bergen County Jail.

The incident took place just into Franklin Lakes on Franklin Lakes Road where the subject was stopped by Ptl. Keenan.  While the subject was seated on the curb, Sgt. Sanzari observed him removing items from his jacket pocket and pushing them into the ground.  Upon further examination, it was discovered that the items were actually hypodermic syringes that the suspect was attempting to conceal from the officers. In addition to the syringes the officers located a glass stem commonly used to snort heroin, and inside a Newport cigarette pack that the suspect had discarded on the ground, the officers located numerous wax paper packs commonly used to store heroin as well as a dirty/blackened q-tip, commonly used to filter heroin.  The 21 year old Oakland resident was turned over into the custody of the Franklin Lakes Police Department to be charged with various drug-related offenses.  The theft incident remains under investigation.
