Election Season Opens in Oakland 1

In uncontested elections, four Oakland residents will be on the ballot seeking their parties’ nominations in the June 3rd primaries. Frank DePentima and Elizabeth Stagg are two Republican incumbents seeking re-election to the all Republican town council. Their challengers will be Democrats Pat Tirri and David Skoblar who are seeking to fill the two seats. The positions are for three year terms.

Bob Graham, the former senator and co-chair of the 9/11 commission, was a guest speaker at the Civility in Democracy Lecture Series this past January. He suggested that informed, engaged citizens are fundamental in the effort to promote civility in political campaigns. As a community news source, The Oakland Journal does not endorse political candidates, but we do hope to provide a platform for the candidates to engage and inform our readers.

Congratulations to all the candidates for their commitment to the community.
