Holiday Drinking

Bergen County 201The holidays bring with them many parties and celebrations that involve alcohol. Perhaps no one needs to be reminded about the dangers of drinking and driving, or how people use liquor as a crutch, but it doesn’t hurt to hear it again. The Journal suggests PsychCentral.com for a brief article on playing it safe, and Forbes.com has some good reminders why you shouldn’t play the fool.

Many people will be enjoying the festive season with the occasional cocktail, and we think that putting a little more thought into what is served can make a party more fun and more safe. Obviously, having a selection of soft drinks to choose from makes people feel that you are considerate of their choice not to drink. For those who do, putting in a little extra effort to make drinks that are festive and special subconsciously makes partyers sip a little more slowly. Just like wolfing down a meal while at a formal dinner party is considered rude, the same elements apply to someone who is having a drink that required just a bit more thought an effort. This also gives the host an opportunity to remind guests to drink it slowly.

ThatsTheSpirit.com provides some inspiration with the Candy Cane Martini, or the Holly Berry for those yearning for a cocktail with berries. Their take on a White Christmas includes egg nog, White chocolate liquer, and Southern Comfort. CocktailTimes.com offers, amongst others, The Nutcracker Martini with Vodka, Amaretto, and White cream de cacao; there version of egg nog includes a mix of pureed chestnuts.
