Where is the good in goodbye?

The good done in life is left behind when we say goodbye.

The Oakland Journal joins a nation that mourns the passing of a good son, a good father, and an historic leader in American journalism. When readers inquire as to what inspires The Oakland Journal, the answer usually is- we aspire to be the antidote to mainstream news media. The tenor of hysteria that saturates national & regional news in America is not the model we aim to emulate. But Tim Russert was a staple of Sunday morning news that provided a small isle of civility and lucidity in a mostly barren wasteland of talking heads, pundits and hyperbolic headlines. To be completely objective is to be a machine, or some other passionless entity, but members of all political persuasions agree that Tim Russert did his best to be fair.

We offer this short video as a tribute to the familial values he always held and expressed freely . As befitting the celebration of Father’s Day, it describes Tim’s efforts, and those of family and friends, as they coordinate the care for his aging father, Big Russ.

“That’s all for today. We’ll be back next week. If it’s Sunday, it’s Meet the Press.”
