On May 19, 2010 Ptl. Docwra conducted a motor vehicle stop on Skyline Drive after observing the vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on West Oakland Avenue . As Ptl. Docwra approached the vehicle, he immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the vehicle’s passenger compartment.
The officer escorted the driver from the vehicle and attempted to have him perform some standardized field sobriety tests. After failing to successfully complete these tests, the 57 year old Willow Grove , PA resident was arrested and transported to HQ. After he refused to submit samples of his breath for chemical testing, the driver was released into the custody of a friend.
Charges included driving under the influence of alcohol, refusing to submit to the Alcotest machine, failure to keep right and failing to stop before making a right on red. A May 2010 court date has been scheduled in the Oakland Municipal Court.
On May 20, 2010 Ptl. Pagerie was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle crash on the exit ramp off of I-287 southbound. Ptl. Pagerie’s investigation revealed that the cause of the crash was due to a faulty brake system on one of the vehicles involved.
While the officer was awaiting a tow truck for the vehicle, he observed several small Ziploc-type baggies inside of it in various places. Further inspection of these baggies revealed small amounts of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
The driver, an 18 year old Wyckoff resident, was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. He was charged with driving an unsafe vehicle, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. He was released on his own recognizance and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.
On May 21, 2010 Ptl. Gary Fiore and Ptl. Ferrarella were dispatched to a residence on First Street on the report of an intoxicated individual who was attempting to operate a motor vehicle. The officers arrived on scene and located the man seated in the vehicle.
The driver admitted to the officers that he had driven the vehicle home, prior to their arrival. Ptl. Ferrarella detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver’s breath as he spoke. Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on scene and the driver was ultimately arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The 53 year old Oakland resident was transported to headquarters for processing and the administration of the Alcotest machine. He was later released into the custody of a family member and issued a summons for D.W.I.
