On July 1, 2010 a local business owner on Terhune Street reported that an outside table, two chairs and a bench were stolen from the property sometime between June 30 and July 1, 2010. The items were described as having a brass/iron finish to them. Ptl. Pianettini conducted the initial investigation and turned the matter over to the detective bureau for further review.
On July 1, 2010 officers were dispatched to Manito Ave in the area of Manito School for a reported motor vehicle crash. Ptl. Rowin arrived on scene first and observed an unoccupied vehicle near the intersection of Monhegan Avenue which appeared to have struck the curb and sustained a flat tire. Moments thereafter Ptl. Ferrarella arrived and subsequently located the driver of the motor vehicle walking on Manito Avenue . Upon speaking with the driver, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath.
Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on scene and the 18 year old driver was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. A small amount of a green leafy substance, suspected to be marijuana, was located in the motor vehicle as well. The driver was transported to headquarters where he submitted samples of his breath for chemical analysis.
Charges included DWI, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, careless driving, failure to keep right, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. After the completion of processing, the driver was released into the custody of a family member and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.
On July 5, 2010 Ptl. McDermott was dispatched to a residence on Kinsley-Evans Circle on a reported theft. The residents reported to the officer that they discovered that miscellaneous coins of unknown value were discovered missing from a drawer in the master bedroom. There were no signs of forced entry to the home and the theft could have taken place at anytime within the previous two weeks. The matter continues to be investigated by the detective bureau.
