On the Job – November 3rd

On October 27, 2010 a business owner on Wright Way reported that he had placed three backpack-style leaf blowers in his work trailer on October 26 and when he returned the next day, he found that the lock securing the trailer had been cut and the blowers were missing.  Ptl. Rowin investigated and determined that the lock appeared to have been cut with a bolt cutter or similar type tool, and was found lying on the ground adjacent to the trailer.  The estimated value of the loss exceeds $1300.00, according to the complainant. The matter remains under investigation by the detective bureau.

On October 27, 2010 an Edison Avenue business owner reported that his Bobcat machine was stolen from in front of his business sometime between 6:30 pm on October 26 and 11:30 am on October 27, 2010.  The value of the machine exceeds $10,000.00.  Ptl. Rowin conducted the initial investigation and forwarded all information to Det./Sgt. DeBoer for further review.

heroinOn October 28, 2010 officers were dispatched to a residence on Nokomis Ave for resident assistance.  As officers were administering aid to the man, it was determined that the resident had been dropped off at the residence by another individual who was still on-scene.  Upon speaking with this second individual, Ptl. Keenan observed him to have signs of intoxication and determined that he was under the influence, and had been while operating a motor vehicle.  The 18 year old Oakland resident was arrested and searched.  The search revealed the existence of a small bag of suspected marijuana and three glassine “decks” of suspected heroin in his pants pocket.  He was transported to headquarters and charged with D.W.I., possession of marijuana, possession of heroin and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.  He was released into the custody of a responsible adult and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On October 29, 2010 at approximately 9:25 am Ptl. Pianettini was traveling west on Long Hill Road when he observed a green colored Ford pick-up truck traveling on Long Hill Road eastbound at an extremely high rate of speed.  The vehicle was observed traveling on the wrong side of the road as it came around the sharp bend in the roadway near Ponds Way .  Ptl. Pianettini activated his emergency lights and siren and turned around for purposes of conducting a motor vehicle stop.  As the officer traveled behind the truck it proceeded to pass four vehicles, including a tractor trailer, over the double yellow line on Long Hill Road .  The vehicle then passed another marked police car being operated by Ptl. Dan Kern and preceded onto Breakneck Road and into the parking lot of the Oakland Care Center , where he was apprehended by several officers.  The 45 year old Sparta, NJ resident was arrested and transported to headquarters where he was charged with numerous motor vehicle offenses and eluding a law enforcement officer.  Bail was set at $40,000.00, no 10% by Hon. John Conte Jr. and the subject was subsequently transported to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of posting bail.  Lt. Chris Eldridge, Det./Sgt. Robert DeBoer and Ptl. Frank Fiore assisted.
