July Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

The annual Children’s Dept. Carnival will be held on Thursday, July 5th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm at the Oakland Public Library. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will play a variety of games, and prizes will be awarded. Registration is now being taken.

It’s time for a casting call! The Oakland Public Library Players, a drama club for children, ages 6 & up, are looking for participants for this summer’s production. Children will meet in the Oakland Public Library’s gallery from 6:30 to 7:30 pm on the following dates: Mondays, July 9th, July 16th, and July 23rd, and Thursdays, July 12th, July 19th, and July 26th. (Participants must be able to attend each of these sessions, please.) The Oakland Public Library Players will present their one and only performance on Monday, July 30th from 8:00 to 8:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall of the Ponds Reformed Church. Registration is now being taken.

Sciencetellers will present a tale of the Wild West, about a sheriff who has been kidnapped, children who rescue him, and a haunted piano! The program will be held on Thursday, July 12th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Children’s Dept. of the Oakland Public Library. Throughout the story, volunteers from the audience will help explore a variety of science experiments. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, won’t want to miss this Wild West adventure! Registration is now being taken.

Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will be making a lava tube on Tuesday, July 17th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Pat Turnier Craft Room. Registration begins Tuesday, July 3rd. Space is limited, so please register early.

“Tail Waggin’ Tutors” is an opportunity for Oakland children, ages 5 & up, to read to a very lovable dog. Daisy, and her “Mom”, Jeannie, will visit the Library on Tuesday, July 17th from 6:30 to 7:00 pm. Daisy is a registered therapy dog with Therapy Dogs International. Each child will have about ten minutes to read a favorite story to her. The program will be held in the Library’s story gallery. Registration begins Tuesday, July 3rd.

The Children’s Dept. will have a live animal program on Thursday, July 19th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, will be introduced to some amazing rescued animals from Eyes of the Wild. The program is sponsored by the New Friends of the Oakland Public Library. Registration begins Tuesday, July 3rd.

Steve Petra & PetraPuppets will present the “Musical Zoo” on Thursday, July 26th from 3:45 to 4:30 pm in the Oakland Public Library. Join us for the upbeat mayhem as ventriloquist, Steve Petra, introduces Yoyo Tiger, Rockin’ Chicken, Pedro the Gargling Piranha Fish, and Monkey Opera. Oakland children, ages 3 & up, are invited to attend. Registration begins Tuesday, July 3rd. This program is sponsored by monies from the New Friends of the Library, the New Jersey Library Association, and the New Jersey State Library.
