June Special Events at the Oakland Public Library (Children’s Dept.)

librarypic“Tail Waggin’ Tutors” is an opportunity for Oakland children, ages 5 & up, to read to a very lovable dog. Daisy, and her “Mom”, Jean, will visit the Library on Tuesday, June 9 from 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. Sadie, and her “Mom”, Donna, will visit the Library on Thursday, May 18 from 5:30 to 6:10 p.m. Both Daisy and Sadie are registered therapy dogs with Therapy Dogs International. Each child will have about ten minutes to read a favorite story to a dog. The program will be held in the Library’s story gallery. The Children’s Dept. is sending out a call for all Super Readers! The 2015 Summer Reading Club, “Every Hero Has a Story!” begins Monday, June 22. While books are the perfect sidekick, there will also be story times, crafts, games, and awesome special events! On Tuesday, June 23, the Bergen County Sheriff K-9 will be visiting the Library for a demonstration from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. Oakland children, ages 5 & up, are invited to attend. John Higby, the 2008 World Yo-Yo Champion, and Guinness World Record Holder for 2008, 2011, 2012, and 2013 will perform his Yo-Yo Guy Show on Wednesday, June 24 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. This is the Summer Reading Club Kick-Off event, and it will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Dogwood Hill School. Oakland children, ages 4 & up, may join us for this spectacular program! Registration for both the K-9 visit and the Yo-Yo Guy Show will begin Tuesday, June 9.

A PreK Family Music Night with Lisa DeCeglia will be held in the Oakland Public Library’s story tower on Thursday, June 25 from 6:00 to 6:30 p.m. Oakland children, ages 1 to 5, and a parent or caregiver, will enjoy songs and activities.
