October Art Exhibit at the Oakland Library will feature “Sea Escapes” by USAF veteran Carla Hicks.”Sea Escapes” is a mixture of New Jersey specific seascapes and abstract seascapes in metallic watercolors and acrylics . There will be an Artist’s Reception on Saturday, October 15 at 2:00 PM- 3:00 PM in the Library Gallery light refreshments will be served. The New Friends of the Oakland Public Library Sunday Afternoon Concert Series returns to the Presbyterian Church of New Jersey, 222 Ramapo Valley Road, Oakland on Sunday October 16 at 4:00 PM. The October concert will feature the Ramapo Valley Chamber Ensemble: Laura Hamilton, violin; Shelley Holland-Moritz, viola; Lanny Paykin, Cello; and Elizabeth Martyn, piano. The Ensemble will perform works by Mozart, Bruch, Beethoven and Copland.

This concert is free, donations gladly accepted and the venue is wheelchair accessible. The NFOPL is a 501(c)3 organization. Please call the Oakland Library for information: 201-337-3742

“The Rise and Fall of the Catskills and the Comedians who Made Them Famous” with Mort Segal, will be presented on Thursday, October 20 at 6:30 PM at the Oakland Public Library located at 2 Municipal Plaza, Oakland, NJ.. Mort Segal worked with his father Jack in booking entertainment for the resorts. On any one Saturday night, there would be 121 shows featuring 150 entertainers such as Don Rickles, Buddy Hackett, and Joan Rivers, and Mort was in the center of it all.
