Padraic Burns, a freshman enrolled in the Engineering and Design University Program at Ramapo High School, recently presented at a two-day NEST conference sponsored by the international telecommunications giant Ericsson. Reinventing urban life was the theme for 2013 conference and discussions focused on urban life as the context for development of new, game-changing opportunities within three key aspects of tomorrow’s city – mobility, commerce and collaboration.
Padraic, a Future City alumni and a member of the 2013 National Championship Valley Middle School Future City Team, was selected from over 20 candidates to participate in the Ericsson NEST Conference in Miami on behalf of the National Engineers Week Future City Competition. Regional Future City Coordinators nominated students, and after several interviews, the panel from Ericsson chose him for this honor.
Padraic and Dominic Yurk, a Future City alumni and Freshman at Cal Tech collaborated with a City Planner from Miami/Dade County during the conference to solve real life issues that the city planners are facing in front of an audience of telecommunication CEOs real time.
