Dave Frieder has been photographing the bridges of New York City since 1993. Due to his fearlessness of heights, Dave Frieder’s Bridge photographs are from a “bird’s-eye view” . His work on this long-term bridge project put him in touch with the Port Authority of NY / NJ, Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, New York City Dept. of Transportation, Amtrak Inc. New York City Dept. of Housing, United States Coast Guard, National Park Service, New York City Economic Development Corporation, and New York State Psychiatric Institute.
His work has been featured in the NY Times, Bergen Record, Star Ledger, Dallas Morning News, Bridge Design and Engineering and many more publications. Dave has appeared on various cable and network shows as the expert – “The Bridge Man” and featured on The History Channel ( Modern Marvels).
Seven of his photographs were in the exhibit “Six Bridges” ( produced by the Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition) which featured the six bridges built by the world renowned Swiss engineer Othmar Ammaan.
Ammaan, designed Frieder’s favorite the George Washington Bridge. ” What Ansel Adams did with photography, Othmar Ammaan did with Civil Engineering.”
