The Oakland Education Foundation (OEF) launched new fundraising events recently to increase donations that support Oakland’s K-8 Schools. Contributions are earmarked for various initiatives, including helping the Valley Middle School complete the renovation of a decades-old science lab.  Funds are also being set aside to support class trips for elementary schools, purchase supplies and equipment for classrooms, and support two scholarships.

Since October, the foundation raised over $10,000:

  • Eat for the OEF – On select weekdays during October, Tony’s Brothers, Frank’s Pizza and Café L’Amore donated 10% of their proceeds to the foundation.
  • “Serving Up Education” Tennis Event – The event, held November 13 at Quest Tennis Club, included donations by the Venetian, as well as sponsorships from local businesses and residents.
  • NY Jets tickets raffle Four tickets plus parking passes were generously donated by a local family.
  • Annual Holiday Party -The event, held December 4 at the Knights of Columbus, featured dinner and dancing with sponsorships from Café L’Amore, Shop Rite, Stop & Shop, and Oakland Bagels.
  • Teacher and Staff Appreciation – Residents honored 92 educators and staff throughout Oakland schools this holiday season. Each received certificates of appreciation as donations were made in their name.

“These are difficult economic times for a lot of people in our town,” said Mary Brandle, OEF President. “To see such great results come out of these fundraisers is a clear indication that residents and local businesses are truly committed to helping support our schools.

“We are very grateful to our contributors for their generosity and to the solid team of trustees who work very hard to help us achieve our goals.”  The Foundation’s biggest fundraiser, Casino Night, will be held on March 19, at Portobello’s banquet location.
