The New York Songwriters Circle announced the winners of their annual contest at the Bitter End in the beginning of December. Competing against competition from around the country for the Young Songwriter Award, sixteen year old Ali Brustofski of Oakland, NJ won for her original song Rewind.
Allison’s show business career, while still just starting, includes a 3 year stint as Nickelodeon’s Piper O’Possum, and for fans of trivia it should be noted that she performed with Nick Jonas in a musical when they were pre-teens.
For over 19 years, Tina Shafer has been producing and directing the New York Songwriters Circle; showcasing artists such as Norah Jones, Jesse Harris, Lisa Loeb, Vanessa Carlton, Gavin DeGraw and Chris Barron. The Circle events held throughout the year in Manhattan attract the best up and coming songwriting talent from around the world. Listening to Ali Brustofski, it’s not a complete surprise to find her in the winner’s circle.
Besides her original work, Ali can bring a fresh interpretation to classics such as Somewhere, from the musical West Side Story; and, the Beatles, I Want to Hold Your Hand. Other music videos can be found at her Youtube site http://www.youtube.com/user/AllisonBrustofski
