Thanks to an anonymous donation and a donation from the Sports Association of Oakland, the Danny Hughes Playground has added a Lady Bug. This new toy is handicap accessible and fun for preschoolers.
The pre-school playground, located behind the roller hockey rink, is dedicated in the memory of Oakland Patrolman Officer Danny Hughes. Officer Hughes who lost his life in the line of duty in April of 1978. The playground is a living tribute in his memory.
This spring there will be 20 trees planted along the side of the playground to offer shade and comfort to parents and children alike. If you have preschool aged children and have not visited the playground, please do so. There is parking just below the playground and accessible from Oak Street (just before the train bridge).
