The Manito school in Oakland raced to the head of the nation in promoting a bipartisan spirit of national unity as both conservatives and liberals came together for the Halloween parade. Although not all the adults were dressed for the occasion, there were a few clowns, witches, and other adult characters joining in the festivities as the students paraded the parking lot in their own costumes.
Halloween at Manito draws some of the biggest crowds with cars filling the parking lot and stretching up and around the bend on Manito Avenue. The school has been in the spirit for weeks now with outdoor and indoor decorations marking the traditional harvest season. The students in kindergarten lead the way as they mark another milestone with their first Manito parade, the costumed kids continue circling as grade after grade falls out for the adults fans surrounding the circular drive.
The kids were ready for their after school trick or treating throughout the streets and neighborhoods of Oakland. The folks in the Dogwood section appeared to have come across a trick or treater that was scary enough without a costume. Unconfirmed reports tell of a lone bear wandering the neighborhood and forcing some kids to surrender the territory by either going home or moving on to another neighborhood. Sources say the bear seemed unconcerned with the ghosts and goblins, and local police were keeping an eye on the bear.
