On the Job – April 15, 2012

handcuOn April 8, 2012 at approximately 3:05 a.m., Ptl. Noury conducted a motor vehicle stop on West Oakland Ave on an individual that was wanted for questioning in an earlier reported act of criminal mischief to a vehicle.  Before the officer was able to complete his radio transmission to HQ regarding the stop, the driver exited his vehicle and began to scream and yell at the officer in an extremely irate manner.  The officer attempted to order the driver back into his vehicle, but instead the driver raised his fists into a fighting position and engaged the officer.  Officer Noury attempted to place the man under arrest and was subsequently struck by him in the chest and hand.  The suspect fled on foot through the parking lot of Walgreen’s and was eventually apprehended on Court House Place by Sgt. Sanzari and Ptl. O’Neill, after a short struggle.  The 37 year old Oakland resident was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.  Bail was set at $15,000 and he was subsequently turned over into the custody of the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department.

On April 14, 2012 as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Ramapo Valley Road for erratic driving, Ptl. Keenan arrested a 62 year old resident of Morristown for driving under the influence of alcohol.  Additional charges included failure to keep right and D.W.I. in a school zone.  After processing, the driver was released into the custody of a friend and was given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.
