On the Job – April 20


marijuanaOn April 4, 2011 Officers were dispatched to a residence on West Oakland Ave after receiving a report from a concerned citizen who observed individuals entering a home that was reported as being vacant at the time.  As Ptl. Docwra was walking around the exterior of the home, he observed items being thrown from an open window by the individuals inside.  Along with the assistance of Ptl. Gusterson, the officer entered the home and questioned the four occupants.  Through on-site investigation it was determined that the four individuals had unlawfully entered the unoccupied dwelling and had thrown narcotics out the window upon the officers’ approach.  The items were later located and determined to be quantities of marijuana and suspected cocaine.  A partially consumed bottle alcohol was also located within the structure.  Arrested in connection with the incident was a 19 year old female from Franklin Lakes , an 18 year old Haskell resident, and two Pompton lakes residents aged 18 and 20.  Charges included burglary, the underage possession of alcohol and possession of C.D.S.  Bail was set at $10,000, with a 10% option.  All parties were later released.

On April 11, 2011 as a result of a motor vehicle stop for tailgating on Franklin Avenue , Ptl. Keenan arrested a 20 year old Oakland resident for driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.  The passenger in the vehicle, a 17 year old Oakland resident, was also charged in connection with the incident.  He was charged with being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, specifically heroin.  Det. Pagerie assisted in the investigation and subsequently filed additional charges for the possession of heroin and hypodermic needles against both individuals after nine decks of heroin and three syringes were located within and around the vehicle. Sgt. Sanzari, Ptl. Keenan, Ptl. Gary Fiore and Ptl Broek assisted in the investigation.  Both individuals were later released into the custody of a responsible adult.

On April 13, 2011 Ptl. Gusterson was dispatched to a business on Post Road on the report of an intoxicated woman who was attempting operate a motor vehicle.  Upon the officer’s arrival, he located the woman who was seated in the driver’s seat of her vehicle and drinking from a bottle of Dewar’s Whiskey.  After having the woman complete some standardized field sobriety tests on scene, Ptl. Gusterson placed her under arrest for D.W.I. The 51 year old Pompton lakes resident was transported to HQ where she submitted samples of her breath for chemical testing.  She was charged with driving under the influence and the consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle.  Prior to her release into the custody of a friend, she was given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On April 13, 2011 Ptl. Rowin was dispatched to a residence on Spear Street to investigate a complaint of a suspicious person who parked on the resident’s front lawn and was removing items from a dumpster.  Upon the officer’s arrival, he located a pickup truck bearing a Pennsylvania registration completely on the front lawn backed up to a construction dumpster.  An investigation revealed that the operator of the vehicle, a 20 year old Henryville , PA resident, was removing scrap metal from the dumpster that the contractor had stored there and sorted for resale.  Officer Rowin subsequently placed the man under arrest and charged him with theft.  An additional charge of criminal mischief was also lodged against the man for the damage that he caused to the homeowner’s lawn by backing his truck up to the dumpster.  Bail was set at $500.00 with a 10% option and he was later released and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.
