On the Job – April 22, 2014


policecar1APRIL 16:  Acting on information provided by another Oakland Police Officer working a security detail at the local Motor Vehicle Commission office, Ptl. Keith Docwra encountered three suspicious males at the Copper Tree Mall which resulted in the arrest of a twenty-nine year old Paterson, NJ resident.  The arrestee was a Wanted Person out of Passaic County for an outstanding child support warrant in excess of twenty two thousand dollars.  After processing, the offender was turned over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department.

APRIL 17: Information was provided to the Oakland Police Department regarding a male actor at a residence on Ramapo Valley Road that had multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest.  Sgt. Michael O’Neill, Ptl. Luis Gaviria, Ptl. Michael Catenacci, and Ptl. Gary Fiore responded to the residence and a thirty-four year old male Oakland resident was taken into custody without incident.  The arrestee who was a Wanted Person by the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department also had active criminal warrants from jurisdictions in Bergen, Passaic, and Sussex Counties.  The offender was processed and later turned over to the Bergen County Sheriff’s Department.

APRIL 18: Ptl. Bryan Rowin investigated a complaint of Criminal Mischief to a motor vehicle that was parked on Lakeview Terrace.  The resident reported her vehicle sustained over five hundred dollars worth of damage.

APRIL 18: While on patrol, Ptl. Luis Gaviria observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed along Ramapo Valley Road and initiated a motor vehicle stop.  During the course of the interaction it was determined that the driver was in possession of suspected Marijuana and Marijuana Paraphernalia resulting in his arrest.  The twenty-three year old Wayne, NJ resident was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses, charged criminally for the drug possession, and later released on his own recognizance with a future court date set to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

APRIL 19:    While on patrol Ptl. Luis Gaviria located a suspicious vehicle parked at the Oakland Rec Field complex where the driver appeared to try to conceal an unknown item prior to his arrival.  It was determined that a twenty-three year old male Dover, NH resident was in possession of an open bottle of liquor inside the vehicle and was issued a summons to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

APRIL 20:  Ptl. Daniel Kern handled a walk-in complaint involving an assault that took place at Portobello Feasts between two employees of the restaurant.  The complainant, a fifty-three year old male Oakland resident, was advised of his legal options regarding the alleged offense.

APRIL 21:  Ptl. Donald Harvey handled a walk in complaint involving a landlord/tenant dispute and possible stolen property on Ramapo Terrace.  The forty-three year old male and forty-three year old female complainants stated that they temporarily left the residence where they were renting and were given permission to store their property there.  The landlord later contacted them and gave notice that they would have to remove their belongings, and when they returned they took notice that some of their property was no longer where they stored it.  Matter referred to the Oakland Detective Bureau for follow up.
