AUGUST 3: Officer Thomas Pianettini investigated a walk in complaint regarding an Oakland couple being the victims of identity theft. The residents stated that they discovered their identity was compromised when they learned that someone already attempted to file a tax return using their information without their knowledge or consent. Report filed.
AUGUST 7: During the course of a welfare check of a motorist by Officer Daniel Kern at the Oakland Mini Mart, it was determined that a 34-year-old male resident of Cateret, NJ was impaired from being under the influence of heroin and was subsequently arrested for Driving Under the Influence. Glassine folds of heroin along with multiple syringes were located during the investigation as well. The offender was taken into custody, processed, and later lodged into the Bergen County Jail.
AUGUST 12: An out of state resident of Florida contacted the Oakland Police Department to report being a victim of credit card fraud after she discovered unapproved transactions on her account at the Oakland Shop-Rite. Her identity was originally compromised in Florida and wanted these incidents on record as well. Officer Thomas Pianettini handled the initial investigation. Report taken and matter forwarded to the Detective Bureau.
AUGUST 13: Ptl Michael Griffin was dispatched to the TD Bank to investigate a report of an individual attempting to cash a fraudulent business check. Upon completion of the investigation an 18-year-old male resident of Bronx, New York was arrested and charged criminally with Forgery and Theft by Deception. Bail was set at $20,000 and the offender was remanded to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail when he was unable to secure the funds for his release. Ptl Thomas Pianettini assisted with the investigation.
