On The Job – December 1


On November 26, 2010 at approximately 3:13 pm Ptl. Kern conducted a motor vehicle stop on Iron Latch Road in Franklin lakes after observing the vehicle fail to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Oneida and Monhegan Avenue .  As the officer approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, a 21 year old Oakland resident, he immediately recognized him to have signs of obvious intoxication.  When questioned about the officer’s observations, the driver admitted to having smoked marijuana within the previous hour and also taking prescription pills, namely “Suboxone”.  Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on-scene with the assistance of Sgt. Sanzari.  During the course of the officers’ investigation and subsequent search of the man’s vehicle, miscellaneous items of drug paraphernalia and controlled dangerous substances were located.  The driver was arrested and transported to headquarters where he underwent a more detailed evaluation by Oakland ’s Drug Recognition Officer, Ptl. Tim Keenan.  Charges included driving under the influence, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to stop at a stop sign.  He was released into the custody of a family member and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

greygooseOn November 26, 2010 Lt. Chris Eldridge and Sgt. Keith Sanzari were dispatched to Shop-Rite Liquors on a reported shoplifting. The suspects were reported as being the same individuals that were captured on surveillance video shoplifting alcohol in the recent weeks.  Upon arrival, the officers were alerted to the fleeing suspects in the parking lot by Shop-Rite employees. One of them was being detained by store security and was subsequently arrested by Sgt. Sanzari without incident.  The other suspect was located by Lt. Chris Eldridge in the wooded area near the employee parking lot.  The 44 year old Paterson woman had attempted to flee from another Shop-Rite employee and was observed at the edge of a rocky embankment.  As the officer approached her, she dropped a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka down the embankment which smashed against the rocks below.  She was arrested and transported to headquarters where she was charged with the destruction of evidence and shoplifting.  An additional charge of providing false information to a law enforcement officer was lodged against the 39 year old woman arrested by Sgt. Sanzari after she implicated her cousin in the shoplifting. Bail was set at $2500.00 and $1500.00 respectively for both women, and each were given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On November 28, 2010 at approximately 1:00 am, Ptl. Tim Keenan conducted a motor vehicle stop on Long Hill Road after observing the vehicle make an improper u-turn on Ramapo Valley Road .  The officer approached the driver, a 55 year old Brick, NJ resident and immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.  Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on-scene by the officer and the man was subsequently arrested and transported to headquarters where he consented to providing samples of his breath for chemical testing.  Charges included making an improper u-turn and driving under the influence of alcohol.  He was later released into the custody of a friend and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.
