On the Job – December 21


fieldsobrietytestOn December 18, 2010 at approximately 12:55 a.m., Ptl. Keenan conducted a motor vehicle stop after observing the vehicle make an illegal left hand turn at the intersection of Ramapo Valley Road and Post Road .  As the officer approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, a 29 year old Lodi , NJ resident, he immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.  Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on scene by the officer and the driver was ultimately arrested and transported to headquarters.  She was asked to submit samples of her breath for chemical testing, which she refused to do.  Charges included driving under the influence of alcohol, DWI in a school zone, refusing to submit to the Alcotest machine and making an improper turn. A December 2010 court date has been scheduled in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On December 18, 2010 at approximately 1:22 a.m., Ptl. Docwra approached the driver of a vehicle that he observed parked in a “no parking” zone on Bauer Drive .  The driver, a 32 year old Wayne , NJ resident, was sleeping in her car.  After knocking on the window and awakening the woman, Ptl. Docwra detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her as she spoke.  She was escorted from the vehicle and asked to perform some standardized field sobriety tests.  After failing to successfully complete these tests, Ptl. Docwra placed the woman under arrest and transported her to headquarters where she refused to submit samples of her breath for chemical testing.  Summonses were issued for parking in a posted “no parking” zone, DWI and refusing to submit to the Alcotest machine.  A December 2010 court date has been set.

On December 20, 2010 at approximately 1:59 a.m., Ptl. Docwra conducted a motor vehicle stop on Yawpo Avenue after observing the vehicle cross over the double yellow line on several occasions.  A back-up officer, Ptl. Keenan, arrived on scene to assist Ptl. Docwra.  Both officers noticed that the 19 year old driver of Franklin Lakes was exhibiting signs of intoxication.  He was removed from the vehicle and asked to perform some standardized field sobriety tests.  After failing to successfully complete these tests, he was placed under arrest by Ptl. Keenan.  At headquarters, the driver submitted samples of his breath for chemical testing.  He was issued summonses for DWI, DWI in a school zone, underage DWI and failure to keep right, prior to his release into the custody of a responsible adult.  A December 2010 court date has been set.
