On the Job – June 8


dwitestOn May 30, 2011 at approximately 2:22 a.m., Ptl. O’Neill conducted a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle which nearly struck his patrol car on Ramapo Valley Rd. near Doty Road .  Upon the officer’s approach to the vehicle, he immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver’s breath.  The 18 year old driver was asked to perform some standardized field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.  Additionally, a glass pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana was located in her purse incident to arrest.  She was charged with DWI, reckless driving and the possession of drug paraphernalia.  A passenger in the vehicle, 20 year old Wayne , NJ resident was also arrested and charged with the underage consumption of alcohol and the possession of drug paraphernalia, after a glass pipe was located in his shirt pocket.  Both individuals were processed and released on their own recognizance.  Ptl. Noury assisted in the investigation.

On May 30, 2011 Ptl. Kern was dispatched to assist Mahwah P.D. in attempting to locate a vehicle which reportedly left a gas station in Mahwah without paying for gas.  Ptl. Kern located the vehicle in question parked in the driveway of a residence on Ryerson St.  The officer’s investigation led to the arrest of the driver, a 37 year old Oakland resident, for driving under the influence of alcohol.  He was transported to headquarters where he provided samples of his breath for chemical testing.  Prior to his release, an additional charge for theft of services was lodged against the individual by the Mahwah Police Department and served upon the defendant.  A June 2011 court date has been scheduled in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On June 1, 2011 as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Seminole Avenue , Lt. Chris Eldridge arrested a 38 year old Rockaway, NJ resident for driving under the influence of alcohol.  The individual was transported to headquarters where he refused to provide samples of his breath for chemical testing.  He was subsequently charged with DWI, refusing to submit to the Alcotest machine, reckless driving and having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. A June 2011 court date has been set.

On June 1, 2011 as a result of a motor vehicle accident on Breakneck Road , Sgt. Sanzari arrested a 27 year old Pompton Lakes woman and charged her with driving under the influence.  She was transported to a local hospital where samples of her blood were drawn for analysis by the NJ State Police.  An additional charge for failure to keep right was also lodged against the driver, prior to her release.  A June 2011 court date has been set.

On June 3, 2011 as a result of a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle for having an expired inspection sticker, Ptl. O’Neill arrested the driver, a 19 year old Oakland resident, for having $500.00 in outstanding warrants out of Wall Township .  A search of the driver’s vehicle revealed the existence of a large glass pipe under the passenger seat which the driver admitted was utilized for smoking marijuana.  He was charged with the possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with an expired inspection sticker. He was later released after posting bail on the existing warrants.
