On the Job – March 13, 2012


cigarettesOn February 22, 2012 as a result of several reports of illegal cigarette sales at a convenience store on Ramapo Valley Road , members of the detective bureau initiated undercover purchases which revealed cigarettes that were being sold bearing fraudulent tax stamps.  Along with the assistance of the NJ Division of Taxation, an inspection took place which resulted in the seizure of 61 cartons of cigarettes. The owner of the establishment, a 46 year old Mahwah resident, was charged with the 4th degree crime of selling contraband cigarettes, 4th degree intent to evade cigarette tax, and the 3rd degree crime of the possession of 2000 or more cigarettes bearing counterfeit tax stamps.  He was processed and released R.O.R. Det. Bart Pagerie investigated.

On March 9, 2012, as a result of a traffic stop for erratic driving on Ramapo Valley Road , Ptl. Kern arrested a 46 year old Franklin Lakes woman for driving under the influence of alcohol.  She was transported to HQ where she refused to submit samples of her breath for chemical testing. Charges included D.W.I, refusing to submit to the Alcotest machine, driving while suspended, and several other miscellaneous traffic violations.  In addition to this, she was served with a complaint charging her with the 4th degree crime of operating a motor vehicle during a period of license suspension when that suspension was as a result of a prior D.W.I. offense.  She was later released into the custody of a friend and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.
