On March 9, 2011 Ptl. Broek was dispatched to Skyline Drive to assist the Ringwood Police Dept. in locating a hit and run motor vehicle out of their jurisdiction. As the officer was traveling north on Skyline Drive , he observed a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction that matched the description of the vehicle which left the scene of the accident in Ringwood. Prior to the officer being able to execute a motor vehicle stop on the vehicle, it crossed over into the opposite lane of travel and struck a guardrail on the northbound side of Skyline Drive and subsequently became disabled. The driver, a 32 year old West Paterson, NJ resident, was later arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Prior to her release into the custody of a responsible adult, several motor vehicles summonses were issued including DWI, refusing to submit to the Alcotest machine, leaving the scene of an accident and reckless driving. A March 2011 court date has been scheduled in the Oakland Municipal Court. Lt. C. Eldridge and Ptl. McDermott assisted in the investigation.
On March 12, 2011 at approximately 2:45 a.m., Ptl. Docwra was dispatched to the area of Post Road and Ramapo Valley Rd to investigate the report of a vehicle being driven without its headlights illuminated. Ptl. Docwra located the vehicle which had since turned onto Bauer Drive off of Long Hill Road and executed a motor vehicle stop. As the officer approached the vehicle, he immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver. Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted at the scene and the 30 year old Bergenfield resident was subsequently arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. She was transported to HQ where she refused to provide samples of her breath for chemical testing. She was charged with DWI, refusing to submit to the Alcotest machine, DWI in a school zone and driving without headlamps. She was released into the custody of a friend and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court. Ptl. Gusterson assisted.
