policecarOn October 18, 2011 while stopped at the intersection of Saratoga Drive and Ramapo Valley Road in a marked police unit, Ptl. Docwra observed the reverse lights illuminate on the vehicle stopped at the stop sign in front of him.  The vehicle suddenly proceeded to back-up and subsequently struck the front of the officer’s car.  When the officer approached the driver, a 25 year old Egg Harbor Township man, he noticed that his eyes were bloodshot and watery and that he had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath.  After conducting some standardized field sobriety tests, Ptl. Docwra arrested the man for operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  He was transported to HQ where he submitted samples of his breath for chemical testing.  Summonses were issued for D.W.I. and careless driving.

On October 22, 2011 Ptl. Docwra conducted a motor vehicle stop after observing a vehicle make an illegal left hand turn at the intersection of Ramapo Valley Road and Post Road .  When the officer approached the driver, he immediately detected the strong odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the vehicle’s passenger compartment.  After some brief questioning, the driver admitted to smoking marijuana and agreed to allow the officer to search his vehicle.  Small quantities of marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located.  The driver, a 20 year old Wyckoff resident, was arrested and charged with the possession of a controlled dangerous substance.  He was transported to HQ for processing and later released on his own recognizance.

On October 25, 2011 Ptl. Frank Fiore was dispatched to Shop-Rite on a report of a man wearing a disguise trying to pass a bad check.  The officers located the man, who had been wearing a wig, and determined that he was attempting to pay for groceries using his ex-girlfriend’s mother’s checks, for which he did not have authorization.  The 22 year old West Milford man was arrested and transported to HQ where he admitted to forging the check and attempting to pass it at Shop-Rite.  He was charged with forgery and bail was set at $5000.00, with a 10% option.  After being unable to post bail, the man was transported to the Bergen County Jail.
