On The Job – October 20

On October 10, 2011 at approximately 6:15 p.m. the Ringwood Police Department reported that a gas station employee on Skyline Drive observed a suspected intoxicated driver leave the station and travel towards Oakland in a beige colored Honda.  Ptl. Broek positioned his patrol vehicle on Skyline Drive and observed the suspect vehicle as it traveled onto I-287 southbound and conducted a motor vehicle stop.  Along with the assistance of Ptl. McDermott, standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on the driver, a 59 year old Wayne , NJ resident and he was ultimately arrested for operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  At HQ, the driver submitted samples of his breath for chemical testing and was later released on his own recognizance.  An October 2011 court date has been scheduled in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On October 12, 2011 Ptl. Docwra was dispatched to investigate a parking complaint where a white colored Jeep was parked in a dangerous location on Long Hill Road .  After issuing a summons for improper parking to the owner of the vehicle, the individual who parked the vehicle arrived on scene in another vehicle that was being driven by an acquaintance of his.  Both of these individuals, along with an additional passenger in the second vehicle, all had a very strong odor of marijuana emanating from them.  After receiving a consent to search both of the involved vehicles, a quantity of marijuana and drug paraphernalia was located.  In addition to this, standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on the driver and he was determined to be under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.  All three individuals, two 18 year old Franklin Lakes residents, and one eighteen year old Wyckoff resident, were arrested and transported to HQ where they were charged with various drug related offenses. Sgt Robert O’Keefe, Det. Pagerie and Ptl. O’Neill all assisted in the investigation.
