On the Job – October 20th


policecarOn October 5, 2010 as a result of information received by officials at Indian Hills High School , Det./Sgt. DeBoer recovered a small quantity of suspected marijuana that was passed between two students during class.  The marijuana, which was located in an eye glass case, was secured as evidence and will undergo testing at the New Jersey State Police Laboratory.  Juvenile delinquency complaints are pending against the two 14 year old students involved for the possession of a controlled dangerous substance on school property.

On October 7, 2010 Ptl. Docwra conducted a motor vehicle stop in the parking lot of Walgreens after observing the vehicle make an illegal left hand turn.  As the officer approached the driver he immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath as she spoke.  Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on scene and the 28 year old Pompton Plains woman was ultimately arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicating liquor.  She was transported to headquarters and consented to a breath test.  Charges included driving under the influence and making an improper turn.  She was released into the custody of a friend and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On October 10, 2010 Ptl. Rowin was dispatched to property on Sienna Way on the report of an individual stealing items from a fenced in area that surrounds the address.  A description of the suspect and the vehicle he was driving were obtained from a witness on scene by the officer.  On an adjacent street, Ptl. Rowin located a vehicle matching the description of the one given by the witness.  He made contact with the driver and questioned him regarding the complaint.  The investigation revealed that the 21 year old Oakland resident had removed a lawn spreader from the property without authorization.  He was arrested and transported to headquarters where he was charged with trespassing and theft.  After being processed, he was released on his own recognizance and given a date to appear in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On October 10, 2010 at approximately 2:40 p.m., Ptl. O’Neill was conducting random motor vehicle checks on Skyline Drive .  The officer observed a vehicle with a broken out driver’s side window pass him as it exited off of I-287 southbound onto Skyline Drive .  A computer check on the vehicle’s registration revealed that the Toyota Camry had been reported stolen out of Jersey City , NJ .  Along with the assistance of Ptl. Rowin, Ptl. O’Neill conducted a felony motor vehicle stop on the vehicle on Skyline Drive .  Both occupants were ordered out of the vehicle and handcuffed.  A search of the vehicle revealed that the ignition had been punched out and a screwdriver had been utilized to start the vehicle.  Miscellaneous items of drug paraphernalia and suspected heroin were located in the vehicle along with an ignition punch tool.  The occupants, a 53 year old Bayonne, NJ resident and a 38 year old Kearny, NJ resident were ultimately arrested and charged with several offenses including receiving stolen property, the possession of burglars tools, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  Bail was set on the two individuals at $50,000.00 and $25,000.00 respectively by the Honorable Judge John Conte Jr.  Both individuals were subsequently transported to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of posting bail.  All charges are scheduled to be heard in the Bergen County Superior Court.
