The Oakland Police Department investigated a report of Theft of various pieces of exercise equipment from a local gym. The month long investigation conducted by Detective Piercy resulted in the arrest of a 41 year old Oakland resident on January 15, 2014, who has been charged with Theft of Movable Property and Wrongful Impersonation. The arrestee was lodged in the BCJ in lieu of bail which had been set at $20,000. The Complaints have been forwarded to Superior Court, Hackensack N.J.

While investigating a motor vehicle crash, Ptl. McDermott arrested a 23 year old Midland Park resident, charging him with D.U.I. The arrestee was released to a family friend after having been processed.

Detective Piercy assisted Agents from the State of New Jersey, Department of the Treasury, Division of Taxation in arresting an Oakland merchant for cigarette tax law violations. Charges have been filed by the Division of Taxation.

While investigating a suspicious vehicle, Ptl. Broek arrested and detained a 18 year old Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, and a juvenile Oakland resident for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. After processing, both individuals were released to a family member.
The Oakland Police Department responded to 9 reports of Burglary to vehicles in the North end of town, all within the same proximity. The Burglaries were committed sometime in the evening or early morning hours. Several electronic devices and loose change are reported to have been stolen from the vehicles.
The Oakland Police would like to remind the public to lock their vehicles and residences to avoid becoming victims of crime.
During the course of the month of December into January, several area residential burglaries and attempted burglaries have been reported with investigations ongoing. Several Police Departments along with the Oakland Police Department have been following leads in an attempt to bring charges against the responsible parties. Any assistance the public can lend to these and any crimes would be greatly appreciated and can be reported to the Oakland Police Detective Bureau.
