On The Job – September 22nd


On September 16, 2010 Ptl. Kern was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle crash on Yawpo Ave.   Upon arrival, Officer Kern noticed that the driver of one of the vehicles involved appeared unsteady on his feet and was speaking very slowly.  Feeling that the driver may be impaired, he called for the assistance of Oakland Police’s drug recognition officer, Ptl. Keenan.  Ptl. Keenan conducted roadside sobriety tests and determined that the 17 year old driver was under the influence of a controlled substance.  The driver was taken into custody and searched.  The search revealed the existence of several prescription pills including Xanax and some sleeping pills.  Charges included driving under the influence, careless driving, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and several juvenile delinquency complaints.  He was released into the custody of a family member after processing was completed.

sirloinsteakOn September 16, 2010 Ptl. Noury was dispatched to Shop-Rite of Oakland on a reported shoplifter in custody by store employees.  Ptl. Noury’s investigation revealed that the 41 year old Old Bridge , NJ resident had placed a sirloin steak in a yellow plastic bag and exited the store without paying.  The man was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to HQ for processing where he was later released on his own recognizance.  A September 2010 court date has been scheduled in the Oakland Municipal Court.

On September 18, 2010 as a result of a motor vehicle stop for crossing the double yellow lines and failure to keep right, Ptl. Docwra arrested a 44 year old Oakland resident for driving under the influence of alcohol. A September 2010 court date has been scheduled.

On September 19, 2010 Ptl. Keenan conducted a motor vehicle stop on a vehicle after observing the vehicle make a right hand turn from the left hand lane of Ramapo Valley Road onto I-287 northbound.  As the officer approached the vehicle, he immediately detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from the driver.  Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on-scene and the 47 year old Hawthorne , NJ woman was subsequently arrested for operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol.  She was charged with several motor vehicle violations prior to her release which included D.W.I.  A September 2010 court date has been set.
