Oakland/Franklin Lakes, NJ (July 1, 2012) – In an annual, kick off to summer tradition, the 30 members of The Oakland/Franklin Lakes Rotary Club and their families gathered to install its newest president, Oakland Resident, Peter J. Kikot. The ceremony was held at a private residence where the Club’s Officers from the previous Rotary year were discharged by Rotary International District 7490’s newest Governor Bonnie Sirower and the new slate of Officers and Directors were installed.
Kikot accepted the club gavel from outgoing president Edward Densel who himself served his second term as club president. Kikot will lead the club for a one year term and has set aggressive goals for the club to achieve in Rotary’s five avenues of service: club, vocational, community, international and new generations. Kikot said of the challenges that lay ahead, “The coming year will be an opportunity to build on the club’s long history of service while transforming the image of Rotary in the community. The club is now attracting young professionals as members who see us as possibly the best way to make a difference with their valuable time through volunteerism. Our clubs annual sponsorship of Rainbow Day, the Mambo Italiano, our Hot Dog Stand at the Carnival and our biggest annual even the ‘BIG 50/50’ Raffle Drawing will continue this year.”
Kikot owns NJLCS, a Landscape Design & Consulting Business with offices in Oakland and Wayne, NJ and has lived in Oakland since 2006. Kikot has served as a board member for The American Red Cross and was the volunteer chair for the Disaster Services and a volunteer disaster responder who spent three weeks in Mississippi and New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. He served as President of the board for Children’s Aid & Family Services, PATH II home in Ridgewood, is Past President of The Ridgewood AM Rotary Club, is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, was awarded the Arthur A. Fenniman Memorial Award for ‘A Life Dedicated To The Principles of The Four Way Test, an annual District 7490 Award and is a multiple Walter D. Head Fellow.
Kikot, his wife Erinda and son Connor, have hosted several children through Rotary D-7490’s Gift of Life program as well as other children from around the world who needed various surgeries. He has also supported the founding of a girls center, school, church and feeding program in southern Haiti and spent two months working in Les Cayes following the devastating earthquake in January 2012 supplying the doctors with medical supplies and feeding the thousands injured in the north who came to Les Cayes for medical treatment.
