Sheriff McGuire Appointed to Nat’l Assoc. of Counties Committee


SHERIFF MCGUIRE APPOINTED TO NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES COMMITTEE

leomcguire2HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office today announced Sheriff Leo McGuire was recently appointed to the National Association of Counties’ Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee.  As a member of the steering committee, he will be responsible for supporting NACo’s legislative agenda and making recommendations on issues and legislation of national and regional importance.

“It is an absolute honor for me to represent the interests of the nearly 1 million residents of Bergen County, as well as all law enforcement, on the Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee,” Sheriff McGuire said. “As a public official, I am always looking for creative ways to do more with less.  This appointment will give me the opportunity to share best practices with my counterparts from across the nation, and bring some of their knowledge back here to Bergen County.  I look forward to serving NACo in this capacity.”

The Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee represents all matters pertaining to criminal justice and public safety systems, including criminal justice planning; law enforcement; courts; corrections; homeland security; community crime prevention; juvenile justice and delinquency prevention; emergency management; fire prevention and control; and civil disturbances.

Today’s announcement marks the fifth consecutive term Sheriff McGuire has served on the national committee.  He also currently serves on the Board of Directors of the National Sheriff’s Association, as President of the Constitutional Officers Association of New Jersey and as Second Vice-President of the Sheriff’s Association of New Jersey.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Office is the largest law enforcement agency in Bergen County and provides a variety of public safety functions for each of the county’s more than 900,000 residents.  Comprised of more than 500 dedicated personnel, the Office’s responsibilities include a broad range of services that assist the public, augment the county’s municipal police departments and safeguard Bergen’s judicial proceedings.
