During their September meeting the Sports Association of Oakland decided to reorganize. The board of the SAO will now consist of 7 members from the Oakland community who are interested in making the recreation program and facilities the best in Bergen County, if not, the state of New Jersey. The primary focus will be to raise funds to attain this goal. The members will be appointed by the Recreation Commission. During this transition 7 of the 9 recent board members agreed to stay on until January, 2010. The SAO meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 8:30pm at the Danny D’Elia Building and encourages anyone who would like to help join in.
Recently, the SAO board, which was formerly made up of 3 members from each of the Mothers’ Club, Fathers’ Club and Recreation Commission, was in charge of running the Rec Stand. After being unable to man the stand during last year’s Baseball season due to lack of volunteers, the 3 groups met with Mayor Szabo to try and figure a way to get the stand open. It was decided that the Mothers’ and Fathers’ Clubs would run the stand without the Recreation Commission being involved.
