Van Allen House Celebrates Washington

President George Washington’s birthday was celebrated at the Van Allen
House this past Sunday, Feb. 21st. This event was open to the general
public.

Members of Boy Scout Troop #49 participated in wax candle making. Boy
Scout wolves from Troop #307 were also in attendance.

To honor our first President’s birthday, members of the Oakland
Historical Society treated visitors with presentations on colonial
period flags of war, hearth cooking and period foods, music and
dancing of the time, and Musket firing demonstrations. Guests were
also able to tour the museum.

It was a wonderful event enjoyed by all of those in attendance. For

Society, please check out their website.
